Tasting Notes

Reception:

Bellingham The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2012

LCBO $22.95

Offers up rich tropical fruit accented by toasty notes. The palate is round, but fresh and beautifully integrated, terrific concentration, clean with notes of toasted almond, honeycomb, white flowers, acacia, lemon curd and oregano. The fruit on the palate verges on tropical with delicately interwoven floral notes. Rich, succulent and exceptionally persistent.

Quinta do Ameal Loureiro

Davenport Wines $21.40

The name Loureiro means ‘laurel’, and refers to the bay-leaf (laurus nobilis) scent. Light coloured. The wine possesses a good combination and balance of floral and fruity aromas, typical of well-ripened grapes from the loureiro varietal. Excellent body, a smooth, yet slightly crisp taste, a fruity palate and persistent length.

First & Second Course:

Cathedral Cellar Chardonnay 2012

LCBO $14.95

A lovely chardonnay that combines freshness and fullness. Buttered toast, pear, peach, pineapple and white grapefruit notions make for a complex picture framed in a crisp, bracing and bright wine with plenty of refreshing acidity. The lip-smacking finish has a kiss of toastiness.

Main Course:

Hartenberg Shiraz 2007

LCBO $28.95

Has a very intense bouquet of macerated black cherries, black olive, undergrowth and a touch of braised meat. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe tannins that belie the backbone underneath. It gains volume in the mouth with layers of ripe plum, blackberry and black olive with a very harmonious finish.

João Portugal Ramos Marquês de Borba Red 2011

FWP $16.75

Appearance is deep purple. Nose has aromas of black fruits, mainly ripe blueberry, some balsamic notes and hints of sweet spice. Palate exhibits ripe fresh black fruits, plum, some tobacco leaf and spices on the medium length. medium acidity level, very ripe and round tannins and a full body.

Dessert:

Jose Maria Da Fonseca Alambre Moscatel De Setubal

Davenport Wines $18

Colour is dark gold. Aroma has orange, apricot, caramel and grapefruit.  The palate is very fruity, soft, balanced with good fruit acidity and a very long finish/
